Double Bass tuning

Описание к видео Double Bass tuning

You’ve heard me say on this channel that there are many ways to peel a cucumber. Well, there are different ways to tune a double bass, or any instrument for that matter. Personally, I use my tuner for an initial A and then tune my strings to each other using intervals. You can use unisons and fourths with the harmonics. I like to tune my low C string with my open G. However, some people tune each individual string to the tuner, and that’s great too. You just have to find whatever makes you feel the most comfortable and like your instrument is in tune with itself. Once you are in the orchestra though, you need to make sure you are always listening and adjusting to be in tune. For example, an orchestra might have a tendency to go sharp, and if you keep playing your open string, it will sound flat. Sometimes you just need to go with the flow and adjust to what the group is doing.
