WPDS-TV Channel 59 (now WXIN), Indianapolis - Inaugural Sign-on 1 February 1984

Описание к видео WPDS-TV Channel 59 (now WXIN), Indianapolis - Inaugural Sign-on 1 February 1984

Featured here is a fifteen and one-half minute video bringing forth the launch of Indianapolis' current Fox 59. It commences with a twenty-three second countdown to the legal sign-on announcement. Following that is a seven-minute video piece chronicling the trials and tribulations of launching a new television station, including the erecting of the WPDS-TV tower during a unusually cold December in 1983. After this comes the SSB video, which is followed by an three-minute address by Roman Catholic Achbishop Edward T. O'Meara on the subject of peace. Then we are greeted by two unidentified WPDS-TV personalities who speak briefly about the new Channel 59 and introduce a music video montage featuring clips of WPDS-TV's programming and scenes of downtown Indianapolis. The clip ends with the final thirty seconds of that evening's 59 Headline News announcing the birth of a baby by the wife of news photographer Larry Deal only an hour or so after the station's birth earlier that evening.

For whatever reasons, however, WPDS-TV was sold the following year (1985), and the new owners rechristened the station with the current call letters, WXIN. In 1986 WXIN became a charter affiliate of the new Fox Television Network. The station has underwent numerous turnovers in ownership. Its current licensee is Nexstar Media Group.
