Mutation used to insert, update, or delete data in data storage. Mutation queries modify data in the backend storage and returns the expected value. Mutations are defined as a part of the schema. Mutation returns an object based on the operation performed.

GraphQL Mutations is equivalent of POST, PUT, PATCH and DELETE requests in REST. There are 3 types of mutations i.e., INSERT, UPDATE & DELETE.
1. INSERT- When you run an insert mutation, you store the new data record in backend storage.
2. UPDATE - When you run an update mutation, you need to specify the record you want to update. Additionally, you need to specify the fields you wish to update and the new data.
3. DELETE - When you run a delete mutation, you only need to specify the record you want to delete.
Since the mutation also returns value, we must specify the fields we want to return after the mutation finishes. The "fields" of the mutation specify the shape of the response. An example is shown on your screen.
