When Naruto’s manga ended, everyone asked how did all the couples got together and while Naruto shippuden’s anime gave you some answers, it didnt tell you everything and even left some stuff out, like we see with Sai and Ino. In the anime, for the shikamaru hiden anime story, we see Ino go into Sai’s mind and pull him out the darkness, which is true, but what the anime didn’t show in full depth is how much darkness was still wearing down Sai, to the point Ino began to cry as she went through his memories growing up in root and feeling alone even after leaving Root. It would be at that point, afterwards, that Ino would make it a point to do small things for Sai, like giving him gifts like flowers to show him that someone cared for him, loved him, and she purposely picked flowers that had specific meanings for her feelings, knowing that Sai would look them up. She would even go as far as to plan out their dates when they did begin dating, because as you would expect, Sai wasn’t the most experienced and by the time Naruto got married, everything finally clicked for Sai and their relationship took the next step.
