In conversation with Thomas Quasthoff

During the 2021 Edinburgh International Festival, our Head of Music Andrew Moore sat down with Thomas Quasthoff for a conversation about about retiring from opera, his passion for jazz and his future plans.

German magazine Der Stern described bass-baritone Thomas Quasthoff as ‘the man with the most beautiful voice in the world’. And though a classical singer by training, he’s a musician with remarkable expertise and insights across many musical genres. He brings the same sense of sincerity and unerring good taste to all he performs, whether it’s opera or art song, folk or jazz. At the 2021 festival he led a masterclass and performed with the Thomas Quasthoff Quartet, as well as taking on the role of Major-domo in Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos.
