Defiance is a metaphoric short poetic/experimental film piece. As it progresses the idea becomes clearer, bringing the viewer to the conclusion of the poetic piece and presenting the question, "Would you die for your beliefs?"
It seems we have reached a time in history that our social and moral evolution has not only reached it's plateau but now is in a state of decline. Our systems of beliefs and values, whether it be religious, political, philosophical, methods of economics, or morality; cannot stand with any substance to obligate us as human beings into fully believing in them. This film presents the most extreme situation and turns the aforementioned question "Would you die for our beliefs" into one that asks "Do we still have any moral, political or religious beliefs, etc. strong enough and so deeply ingrained in our minds and souls to consider them as worthy of self sacrifice to any degree?". Something that is so meaningful that it awakens us from blindly marching through life in a state of monotony. We seem to have come to a time that we compartmentalize our lives, create routines and fit our values, our beliefs just in the places that they fit.
Are we highly spiritual or religious yet as soon we exit the door of our chosen worship do those feelings lessen and by dinner time are we doing something completely contradictory? Do we have strong political views and beliefs but only over coffee with friends? Do we consider ourselves to have high morals? Yet upon witnessing something we consider an injustice do we turn our heads and walk the other way. Have we as a society reached into nihilism? But then again upon opening one's eyes and looking outside our small bubble of existence do we find ourselves on a dual edged sword? Should we question everything? It is hard not to wield cynicism as a defense out of fear of being lead blindly like cattle from a few herdsmen. A man sits being tortured but stays steadfast to his belief in defiance of giving in. The consequences for his actions are death he has become a martyr for what he believes in.

Defiance

Liquid snake
Devouring an earthly path
Defying to be caged

Witness to the slowly draining consciousness of a nearby decay

Cracked,
Beaten,
Tattooed from a artistic passer by

Gentle breeze orchestrating a melancholy song
Playing hollow bones
vocal chorus of leaves daring you to defy.
Falling victim to its savage power,

Architecture refuses to fall
Clings to the earth desiring life
Weeping from the echoes within

Tantalizing eyes
Engage,
Intent on decimating a willful soul

Bound in a abode of filth
Refusing to relinquish convictions
steadfast and stubborn with pride

Mad rage only strengthening belief
Rage
That Rage
Like a provoked fire wildly whipping.

Tormented
Gun to head
Bullet within whispering
Give in

Battered
Beaten
Restrained

Blood stains
Evidence of defiance
Beliefs locked in the sanctuary of mind
Refusing to give in
For your beliefs would you die again and again?
