This is a December 1984 ad for the utility in Northern Illinois "Commonwealth Edison." In this video Electrical Engineer Bill Dunbar goes up in a helicopter and stresses the importance of keeping the 345,000 volt power lines in working condition. The lines are like an electricity superhighway and they bring in power from the Atlantic to the Rocky Mountains. Even if there is a problem, the electricity users will see no interruptions to their homes, there will be no downtime for businesses, and no inconveniences for you. The hard-working people at Commonwealth Edison are controlling every last mile. It is dangerous work but they take pride in it. Look at the slogan: Doing Things Right and Proud of It. Outages may devastate the rest of the country but not in Northern Illinois. The costs of a city-wide blackout will be avoided.
