Hello, and welcome back to the channel!

In this video, we do a tour of the Keihan Keishin Line. Opened in 1912, the current iteration of the line splits from Misasagi Station on the Tozai Subway Line in Kyoto and heads 7.5km (4.7mi) to the eastern terminus at Biwako-Hamaotsu in Otsu City, the capital of Shiga Prefecture. All trains originate at Uzumasa-Tenjingawa in the western part of Kyoto, though our journey begins at Keihan-Sanjo on the Tozai Line, roughly underneath the original station which was abolished in 1997 along with the western part of the original alignment.

Despite costing more to ride, the line is one of the country's last surviving interurban streetcar lines; most of which have formed the basis of Japan's extensive regional railway network. The line is a subway at one end, a mountain train in the middle, and a streetcar at the other end.

Take a look as we tour one of the most popular railway lines among trainspotters in Japan!
