The Rolex Oyster Perpetual 41 arrived in 2021 and instantly supercharged interest in Rolex’s oldest sports watch. The Oyster Perpetual’s rise from entry-level offering to a flagship required only a 41mm case, colorful dials, and the right market conditions. And in 2022, the “turquoise” dial Oyster Perpetual has become a peer to Rolex greats like the Submariner, GMT-Master II, and Daytona.

With a look unofficially inspired by Tiffany & Co but officially just “turquoise,” the largest ever Oyster Perpetual enjoys status and resale value that Rolex never imagined for its most affordable watch.

Each Oyster Perpetual 124300 enjoys a large tonneau-style case that reads slimmer and more graceful than the same shape on smaller Rolex watches. 904L stainless steel is a Rolex specialty, and it steels this watch for greater resistance to corrosion than standard 316L would provide.

While several “Stella” dial tributes arrived in 2021, the most celebrated of these brightly colored lacquer dials is the turquoise model. Tiffany & Co. of New York lost its right to sell new Rolex watches in the early 1990s, so the Rolex “turquoise” dial amounts to a shockingly literal tribute to the era of Tiffany branded Rolex watches. While no original Tiffany-signed Rolex watch included this specific color, the Tiffany blue boxes included with Tiffany retailed Rolex watches are iconic and highly collectible.

Each Oyster Perpetual 41 includes the three-link Rolex “Oyster” sports bracelet. The links are satin finished on their tops and polished on their flanks. Removable links are fixed in place by screws and permit sizing with a jeweler’s screwdriver. The Oyster clasp as used on the OP41 includes Easylink for the first time on an Oyster Perpetual. This tool-free adjustment permits up to 5mm of sizing changes. Additional sizing options can be obtained by using a strap tool to change the anchoring point of the bracelet inside of the clasp.

Mechanical upgrades to the Oyster Perpetual 41mm match those of other recent Rolex models. A new caliber 3230 winds automatically and boasts a 70-hour power reserve. Special design features are included to maximize the shock resistance and antimagnetic qualities of the movement. Each caliber 3230 is a COSC certified Swiss chronometer, but Rolex still tests the fully assembled Oyster Perpetual to ensure it exceeds chronometer timing standards. A Twinlock crown ensures 100-meter water resistance.

The original Rolex Oyster Perpetual was launched in 1933. Its name tells the story; this was a combination of the “Oyster” water resistance case and the “Perpetual” automatic rotor winding system. As the original Rolex sports watch the Oyster Perpetual spawned an entire universe of water resistant and automatic winding stainless steel Rolex sports watches. Every modern Rolex watch descends from the original rotund “bubble back” Oyster Perpetual models.
