With this little trick I make here, you are able to collect fruits, like figs or cherrys, that are higher on the tree and out of reach. Without the need for a ladder.
You need a metal container, like an empty propane gas can or a simple food can. You basicaly make a small bucket with sharp edges, that allows you to reach the high fruit and cut it, and at the same time allows you to catch it.

After cutting the can all around, the thin metal will be sharp, so be careful of your hands. Cut a "V" shape on the side of the can, which will act as a cutter. If you can sharpen the V shape, even better.

Then all you have to do is attach that small bucket to a stick, and just raise the stick to reach the high fruit. Simply push the stick, and the V cutter will cut off the fruit, and allow it to fall into the bucket.
Simple and effective.

You can make the bucket from plastic, but it won't be that sturdy. It needs to be metal. You can even use a beer can. No problem.

If you're using it to collect figs, don't forget to wash your hands afterwards, because the milk of the figs is kind of irritating.
