"Quest: David Thompson's 1811 Journey" is a theatre production by Theatre Encounter. Merging this Canadian iconic explorer's journey with famed mythologist Joseph Campbell's "Hero's Journey", as well as with stories from First Nations, Greek, and contemporary mythology, this performance piece pushes the boundaries of physical exploration as narrative.
Focusing on Thompson's historic pass over the Canadian Rockies in 1811, this bicentennial celebratory production looks at the roots of myth, timelessness, and humankind's obsessive desire to quest.
The show does this through an experimental physical rendering of the text based on movement theory including Grotowski, Odin's work, Meyerhold, Pochinko, somatic practices and Motivity.
