"The Demolitionist" (1995) is American science fiction/action superhero film from writers Brian DiMuccio, Anne Kurtzman, Robert Kurtzman and Dino Vindeni, directed by famous make-up artist/ director/ producer Robert Kurtzman. The film stars Nicole Eggert, Richard Grieco, Bruce Abbott, Heather Langenkamp, Susan Tyrrell and Tom Savini. This was Kurtzman's first film as a director after co-founding KNB Effects Group.

The movie starts in the not-too-distant post-apocalyptic dystopian future. The mayor of Metro City (Susan Tyrrell) introduces a law banning all guns in the city.

Cut to the execution of the Mayor's mortal enemy, Mad Dog (Richard Grieco), and his brother Little Henry. As the switch is about to be pulled on the twin electric chairs, one of the guards turns on the executioner and the brothers are freed. Little Henry is killed during the escape however Mad Dog manages to escape from Death Row.

Flash-forward a little way and Mad Dog has reclaimed his throne as gang leader, and is back to wreak havoc on Metro City. He stages an unsuccessful attempt to kill the Mayor by attacking the mayors office ("Isn't it a bit late to be cleaning windows?".. smash! Ratta-tat-tat!)

Female police officer Alyssa Lloyd (Nicole Eggert, a blonde bombshell from BAYWATCH) is then sent undercover as one of Mad Dog's gang members, to infiltrate and get in a position to take him down again.

Unfortunately, Mad Dog isn't that dumb and realizes what's going on. Alyssa's partner gets exposed and is forced to play a game of Russian Roulette and dies. Alyssa is then mortally wounded in the line of duty by Mad Dog as a message to the Mayor that he’s back.

On her death bed in hospital, cold-hearted government doctor/scientist (Bruce Abbott) who badly needs to prove himself to the Mayor has created a project called Lazarus to clean up the town. He asks Alyssa if she wants a new life. She gasps in agreement then passes away....only to be brought back to life from the dead as an invincible zombie warrior, in true comic-book form, resurrected to serve ... as THE DEMOLITIONIST, the ultimate crime-fighting weapon in a city overrun by criminals and internal corruption. He gives her a kevlar suit, superfluous mask and twin custom automatic pistols. Like Robocop, they are 'encoded' for her use only. But better than Robocop's police cruiser is the motorbike she receives. Then he sets her loose on Mad Dog & his morally degenerated gang, capable of anything.

Her blood has been replaced with nano-bots that repair her body when she's injured. The catch is she needs daily transfusions or she literally decays. So, every night the Demolitionist is forced to undergo horrific injections of doses of blood-substitute plasma which keep her alive and deadly. The scientist seems to forget that his prize specimen was/is a woman, with very human feelings, whose main psychological conflict is that she isn't comfortable with the fact that she is dead yet she still has full control over herself, and is functioning better than ever thanks to her new high-tech blood. At first, she doesn’t want to live, but then her thirst for revenge on Mad Dog and his crew keeps her flame lit.

With her high-tech armor and armory, she yearns for her former life, but is obsessed with tracking down her murderers, Mad Dog and his criminal biker gang, while engaging in the requisite shoot-outs and explosions.

One interesting touch is how bullet impacts are visualized. Red powder squibs are used instead of blood when victims are shot, and the guy who gets hit goes down in a red cloud.

Due to Kurtzman's work on many genre films as a make-up artist, he was able to recruit an impressive cast, featuring a parade of cameo appearances from numerous '80s genre stars! These include Bruce Abbott (RE-ANIMATOR) as a stuffy doctor, Heather Langenkamp (A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET), Dan Hicks (Joe from EVIL DEAD 2), Reggie Bannister (the PHANTASM series) Joseph Pilato (Rhodes from DAY OF THE DEAD), fellow make-up artist/ actor Tom Savini (FROM DUSK TILL DAWN) and finally everyone's favourite shemp, Bruce Campbell (THE EVIL DEAD) makes an uncredited cameo appearance at (1:18:08), as one of Mad Dog's gang members.

The movie came about in the wake of Kurtzman’s collaboration with producer Donald P. Borchers on "Doppelganger" (1993). In 1991, Kurtzman hired a then unknown Quentin Tarantino to pen a vampire flick he was hoping to lens called "From Dusk Till Dawn". Kurtzman offered Borchers "The Demolitionist", partially in exchange for Borchers agreeing "From Dusk Till Dawn" did not infringe on the copyright for his I.P. "Vamp" (1986).
