After finishing my degree from UCT, I spent about 6 months in Zimbabwe while I was applying for a work permit. During this time, I tried to do some job hunting it quickly became clear that my industry simply wasn't hiring in Zim. The few hustles that I did come across paid so little it was lowkey exploitation and not enough to make a living. This is the time I decided to apply for permanent residency in South Africa because chances for things getting better in Zimbabwe any time soon are so very slim.

Permanent residency gives me access to a lot of perks in South Africa, affordable home loans, access to funding if I ever decide to go back to school, the list is endless... But since Cape Town is basically now a home for me, South African citizenship isn't such a far fetched thought any more. In a few years I will be eligible to apply for citizenship so I thought I could shed some light on how South Africans get their citizenship.
