Dedicated to Ontario subject matter throughout his life, A.J. Casson developed a deep connection to the varied landscapes of his home province. The changing of the seasons constantly provided the Canadian master with renewed sources of inspiration. Casson endlessly captured the bright colours of the woodlands with clarity and directness, rendering foliage in rhythmic shapes and patterns. Casson was a painter who devoted a lifetime to the pursuit of art and there can be no doubt that over a long career, which spanned much of the twentieth century, the artist left an indelible mark on the Canadian art world.
