SZEKLER ROCK & The SMALL VILLAGE of RIMETEA, ROMANIA -- Transylvania Sights // 100

On PART 2 of the Turda Tour, Arpad (from Casa Nobilium--link below) brings us to the small village in Transylvania called Rimetea ("Torocko" in Hungarian and "Eisenburg" in German). Rimetea is a small town in the Carpathian mountains, made up of about 99.9% Hungarian heritage. The culture and history of Rimetea are held strong and kept alive within the village. Rimetea is home to one of the oldest houses in the region, dated back to the 17th century.

Rimetea ("Torocko," "Eisenburg") is most well-known for its outstanding view of the Szekler Rock. Also called the "Piatra Secuiului"), the Rock is actually a craggy mountain, above which the sun rises twice! Because the sun rises at an angle here, it passes behind one head of the Szekler Rock, disappears, and then reemerges above the whole mountain, thus giving the town notoriety being the place where the sun rises twice.

The Szekler Rock and the small village of Rimetea are uncommon sights to see in Transylvania, but they're a must-add to your Bucket List! Unlike most Transylvania sights, you won't see many tourists here, but you may be asked into a guesthouse for some coffee and pie! Visit here for the Szekler Rock, take your time to learn about the culture and history of the small towns in Romania, and let yourself be consumed by the neighborly spirit of Transylvania.
