On Saturday, October 10, 2015, the Matthew Shepard Foundation hosted its 14th Annual Honors Gala at the Seawell Grand Ballroom at the Denver Center for Performing Arts. Nicole Maines, a transgender teen from Portland, Maine, advocated for inclusive policies in her home state with her twin brother, Jonas, and parents, Kelley and Wayne. Together, the family made appearances at the capitol to speak out against discriminatory policies and Nicole and Jonas participated in an NPR segment to share their story.
