Note: The sync and pitch go to crap from around 45:40 on. The pitch recovers after a while, but the sync is always off. (This is because of massive frame drop + the resync setting from the Berwick videos, if you care.)
After I went the EVA route and saw how stupidly easy the last map was, I decided to go for a real ending instead. I prefer the Guest route over DC, so I went with that. As a bonus, it gave me a good excuse to pick up Jung Freud (something I hadn't done before).
This route really wasn't very difficult most of the time, but it was definitely tedious to go through like this. It really says something when abusing the Ideon Gun on almost every map is the LEAST tedious way to get things done. It helps that I chose the Realistic route, since the lover's skill set is incredibly useful for this kind of thing.
It's worth pointing out that Episode 71 (72, in my case) was legitimately hard. Fighting a bunch of bosses without any good super robots around is not fun at all. If it wasn't for the fact that Domon gets stronger attacks at higher levels, the challenge probably would've ended there. Good thing I gave him a lot of favoritism once the God Gundam came around, huh?
As for this map, I decided to put a little effort into it and actually plan some things. Both parts are easy anyway, so might as well save some turns to make the video more worthwhile.
The first part is pretty self-explanatory other than the fact that I had Jun in the Mazinkaiser. Letting her get that kill gave her just enough SP to be able to use Rally twice, which I found very convenient. I could've left her in something else, but the Mazinkaiser is such a cool robot that I wanted an excuse to use it. (Kouji sucks even in regular play, so imagine how bad he is without upgrades to lean on.)
I attempted a 1-turn version of the first part, but I didn't have enough SP to make it happen. Maybe if I had equipped Domon with a Mega Booster, but I didn't want to destroy his ability to actually hit stuff. Since this is just for fun, I'd rather take a 2-turn with no luck involved than a 1-turn with save abuse.
Part 2 is more interesting, because I got to play with all kinds of silly stuff. The first thing was figuring out how to destroy that pesky yellow army quickly. It's less about saving the NPC (game over if she dies, by the way) and more about taking away targets. Watching NPCs attack enemies is one of the worst things in this game, because it wastes so much time.
The next thing was figuring out how to get Devil Gundam down to half HP to trigger the scene. I saved before the fight because I planned to manipulate a critical, but Domon wouldn't have any of that. I eventually just decided to use another Exhaust and guarantee enough damage. By the way, as someone who has yet to watch G Gundam, that scene is so freaking confusing.
After that, I had to deal with Shapiro. My initial plan was to have Bernie (yes, Bernie) get the finishing blow in Char's Zaku. I was totally looking forward to joking about how Bernie got the one kill he needed for ace status, but it turns out he doesn't have enough accuracy even at level 40-something. Definitely proves how bad he sucks when even a gamebreaker (in terms of agility) robot like that Zaku can't save him. Sorry Bernie, I tried. :(
So after I scrapped that plan, I moved on to something I knew would work but still has some humor in it. Specifically, putting Char in there instead and giving it 4 Mega Boosters. As we all know though, those were just for show and the real secret was the red paint.
One of the last things I got play around with was splitting up Dancougar and Combattler V. It's so rarely useful to do that, so I find it neat that it's useful here. Of course, I could've just let the colonies move a little more (no harm in it), but what fun would that be?
The last thing I had fun playing with was stomping Shapiro's face entirely with Gunbuster. This is the kind of thing I would've found an excuse for anyway, but I already had one this time because of how weak everybody else was. I just wish the boss music didn't cancel out Fly High...
Anyway, I'm done with this game for the moment. I wish there was something else to do, but I don't know how to make this challenge harder without making it tedious beyond all reason. Oh well.
