Tsavorite, sister stone to Tanzanite, this rare flashing green gemstone was named by Tiffany and Company who immediately recognized its potential due to its gemological pedigree. Named after the area of its discovery - Tsavo in Kenya, this gem's beauty surpasses that of its green cousin Emerald due to its superior gemological characteristics. Its rarer, harder, more durable and reflects light much better than Emerald.

Tsavorite is a relatively new gemstone in terms of market exposure but in terms of geological history it is extremely old. The rocks in which it formed were first laid down over 2 billion years ago and as such is one of the oldest forming gemstones.The mighty snow capped Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa, was itself only in its infancy when Tsavorite was already old.
