A new survey conducted across eight Indian cities has revealed alarming facts about the sugar consumption in schools. Over 75% of children in the age group of 2-15 years consume sugary foods/drinks daily, with 40% of them consuming these sugar-packed items several times in one day, the survey found.

Conducted by Mumbai-based Early Childhood Association and Association for Primary Education and Research (ECA-APER), the survey also revealed that parents scored low in terms of awareness about sugar intake. Close to 60% of parents were unaware of the daily recommended sugar intake for children.

The study, which tracks sugar consumption among children in schools, was conducted in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Kolkata and Ahmedabad and included a sample size of 10,000 parents.
