Narcissistic mothers can be dominating, arrogant, hypersensitive, and resentful. Narcissistic mothers can be over critical. A narcissistic mother and son relationship can become antagonistic. Narcissistic moms can use guilt trips to manipulate their sons which impede a son's ability to have high self-esteem. A mother with high narcissistic will not be able to genuinely meet the emotional needs of the son.

Narcissism in parents sabotages a child's sense of self-esteem. Narcissistic mothers can isolate their sons from healthy relationships and feel abandoned when the son needs the mother most. A common sign of narcissism in mothers is emotional abandonment. When children of narcissistic parents experience emotional abandonment, it is difficult for sons of narcissistic mothers to feel comfortable expressing emotions in adulthood.

Narcissistic mothers have poor boundaries and later on, in adulthood, children of the narcissistic mother, suffer from being able to set healthy boundaries in their relationships. The narcissistic mother will use guilt trips as weapons to ridicule their son into submission. As adults, the son of a narcissistic mother has trouble speaking of his vulnerabilities. It becomes too scary for the son to express himself. The narcissistic mother demands her son to put her first in his life.
