Lewis Bradford Hodges was not difficult to locate as he was born, lived and died in Taunton. Mr. Hodges was a Civil War veteran, son of Sally Rounds and Lewis Hodges. He married Hannah Elizabeth Godfrey on Jan. 31, 1861 in the town of Norton and the couple had 3 daughters and 2 sons. Mr. Hodges was a stove molder. Taunton was famous for making locomotives and cast iron stoves. The Weir stove company and Glenwood being the most well-known. Lewis was born in April, 1834 and died on March 2, 1905, being almost 71. He died from arteriosclerosis and is buried in Mayflower Cemetery in Taunton (also burial place of the infamous poisoner Jane Toppan). It is interesting to note how many of the jury had daughters at home and could not imagine their dear girls capable of such grisly murders.
