The Medina County Coroner has determined the cause of death of the man who died following a reported disturbance at a BP station in Brunswick last week, leading to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation being called in for assistance.

According to Dr. Lisa Deranek, the cause of death has been ruled as cardiac arrest and an autopsy is pending. The man's identification has not yet been released and it is not immediately clear what caused the cardiac arrest.

The BCI was called in to assist with what officials termed as an "officer-involved critical incident" at the BP gas station on Pearl Road took place on Thursday evening.

Steve Irwin with the Ohio BCI confirmed to 3News on Friday morning that the subject involved in the incident died. Brunswick police later sent a release stating officers responded to the gas station for "a report of a disturbance."

While authorities did place the man under arrest, the police department claims he was taken to Cleveland Clinic's Brunswick Family Medical Center "for injuries suffered prior to his arrest." He later died at the hospital.
