Dr Tedros video message on Ethics and governance of AI for health

In this statement, WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros underlines that Artificial Intelligence has enormous potential for strengthening public health and the delivery of health care and helping all countries achieve universal health coverage. This includes improved diagnosis and clinical care, enhancing health research and drug development and assisting with the deployment of different public health interventions, such as disease surveillance, outbreak response, and health systems management.

Dr. Tedros also stresses that AI raises some important ethical concerns, such as equitable access, privacy and data protection, and bias. Developers, MoH and health care providers need to address these ethics and human rights issues when developing and deploying AI in order to ensure that all people can benefit from it.
