Описание к видео Celebrating the Aurora Exascale Computer Dedication with U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright

For over 50 years, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory has led the charge in advancing computing to power scientific discovery. With its world-class Argonne Leadership Computing Facility, the lab is now home to one of the most powerful tools ever built for research: the Aurora exascale supercomputer.

Exascale computing opens new frontiers in science, engineering, and artificial intelligence. With Aurora, researchers can explore questions once considered too complex or computationally intensive—unlocking the ability to simulate entire biological systems, predict the behavior of advanced materials, and design technologies for energy security, human health, and national prosperity.

Aurora fuses exascale performance with AI and machine learning capabilities. With over 60,000 GPUs and cutting-edge architecture developed in partnership with Intel and HPE, Aurora empowers researchers to run detailed simulations and analyze massive datasets at unprecedented speeds—over a billion billion calculations per second.

On July 16, 2025, leaders from the Department of Energy, Argonne, Intel, HPE and collaborating research institutions gathered to dedicate the machine and celebrate its transformative potential. Speakers, including U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, highlighted the public-private collaboration that made Aurora possible, as well as the wide range of projects it will support—from fusion energy and quantum computing to cancer research and AI-guided scientific discovery. As part of the DOE’s commitment to open science, Aurora is available to researchers across the country, offering access to one of the fastest and most advanced computing systems in the world.

Aurora isn’t just a supercomputer—it’s a launchpad for the next era of innovation. Learn more about how scientists are using Aurora to imagine and create the future at https://www.anl.gov/aurora
