La Sportiva Jackal II Review

Trail Runners have become a very popular option for hikers and backpackers who are trying to keep their weight down while also having supportive and technical footwear. The La Sportiva Jackal II Trail Runners are a versatile trail runner for both runners and hikers. They come in both a men's and women's style and combine lightweight with traction and durability. Here are my thoughts on the Jackal II from a hiker's point of view.

What I liked

Size and Fit: The Jackal II come in a wider fit which is hard to find in some trail runners. The wide-toe box is a big plus for me as I have a wide foot and it is hard to find comfortable shoes so it is nice to have a pair of shoes to fit and have the support and technical design for the trails.

Support

For a low-top shoe, the Jackal has a lot of support around the ankle and through the foot. I usually hike in mids so I am always cautious when it comes to support. These worked great even when hiking in the rocky conditions of Colorado.

Traction

The Jackals have a ton of great traction in the front toe area. This is important for runners to have power on the push-off. This also helps a ton for hikers as when heading down hill. There is a lot of great grip, even in rough terrain heading down some of the steep declines in Colorado and I really appreciate that.

What I didn't like:

The only thing I didn't really like was the fact that there was a bit of mesh around the top of the Jackal. This is great when it comes to breathability and keeping my feet cool. The problem comes when you get into sandy or wet area's where the water or tiny debris can make it through the mesh. As long as you know what type of terrain you are headed to this can also be easily avoided.
