Today you are going to hear the story of Emulin. Hello and welcome to the video. I'm Brett Gurney and in this video, Dr. Joe Aaron's the creator of emulain is going to present Emulin to you.

Dr. Joe is an animal and plant physiologist. That's the study of life at the cellular level.

And like many researchers, he started out at the University of California Davis.

And eventually went through some positions and was head of Technology and Consumer services for Green Giant fresh.

He ended up as director of research for the Florida Department of Citrus. His main job there was to bring that facility to a commercial level and promote citrus through good research.

"Health is the number one reason that people have always consumed orange juice. So I started to focus on that".

One day, a fellow in the citrus industry walked into my office and and he was his family were involved in grapefruit business, that he was promoting for health benefits.

I said, Well, what can we do here to promote grapefruit?

They both knew that every time there was a news article about the so called grapefruit diet, sales of grapefruit went up.

So they decided to do a scientific study to prove it or not.

Scripps Institute conducted the study and they found that yes, it was very conclusive that grapefruit by itself with no other factor, caused weight loss.

But they saw something else too. There was a change in insulin activity. This meant there was a physiological effect not just a satiety thing. Something was going on biochecmically inside grapefruit.

So this prompted Dr. Joe to appraoch his employer with the great news and his exccitement of learning more.

Unfortunately the FDOC did not have the same enthusiasm. They just wanted to promote it for weight loss. Joe did his job and they were satisfied.

But Joe Ahrens being the scientist on the cusp of a major discovery was not satisfied. He needed to learn more.

So he went off on hos own, started his opwn company ATM Metabolics, and went to work.

That was back on 2003 and over the next 4 or 5 years they went on to identify and isolate what it was in grapefruit causing these insulin-like behaviors.

And now we have Emulin.
