Steamer Trunk Restoration | Cleaning and Refinishing an Antique Trunk | Vintage Blanket Storage Idea

I was asked to transform a steam trunk that is over 100 years old. It is to be used for blanket storage, and that's the only instructions I was given. The rest was up to me!

This is a project I can get behind. I get to choose the end result! The transformation is so drastic. The trunk starts off as a piece you don't even want to leave in your shed, to something you'd happily display in your home. It took much more elbow grease than money to get this result. And it was worth it. I didn't really want to give the trunk back. I thought it looked pretty good in my own house!

I wasn't restoring the trunk to look like it originally would have. We don't have any photos to reference and no one who remembers what it looked like new. But we did want to preserve it for future generations. Despite it's age and wear, it's still a solid piece. Now it can go on for another 100 years.

I don't know if this can be classified as a DIY, but I love this project. It was so rewarding watching the trunk be refreshed and years literally washing away. I'm thinking I want to get a trunk of my own!
