There is not much coverage on working on these classic 1974 to 1988 Johnson Stinger, Evinrude Hustler 70 and 75 HP short shaft nitro gear cases. This movie covers the basics on tear down only. I will be posting a video soon with assembly and shimming instructional video as well. These gear cases are still used by many boat racers all over the world so I thought it would be a good idea to show how they come apart. It was a very great design and the gear cases are amazing quality even on todays hight tech standards. Light and strong, these gear cases when matched to the correct short shaft mid section will fit on any of the four spline OMC Johnson Evinrude three cylinder motors from 1970 to 1988. With different shorter ratio gears inside these gear cases were also used on the 40 to 55 hp OMC Johnson Evinrude two cylinder engines, these two cylinder engines are also very popular in racing as well. I should mention that when I talk forward the gear that falls out as the forward gear I actually should have said the reverse gear , mixed them up by accident doing this well planned high tech video! Also, after filming this video and running the part numbers on the gears I found out that this gear case was actually from a 2 cylinder OMC engine, so I will not be using it, its will be going to my friend in Ohio for his sons two cylinder race boat :-)
