This video is part of a series of videos on "Indian Pelagic Birds" taken during various pelagic/offshore trips organized by keralabirder, Malabar Natural History Society and SA Hussain Memorial Trust, many with the help of Dept of Fisheries, Kerala. The trips have been conducted mainly from Kannur and Mangalore in the South-West coast of India. The main intention here is to show the birds and their behavior, and provide a basic reference for pelagic bird recognition from Indian coast.

Flesh-footed Shearwaters are one of the commonest birds met within our waters. They are found in very high numbers during monsoon and immediately post monsoon, with the birds disappearing in winter. Sometimes, they congregate when fishing nets are being pulled in. Some trips have recorded more than 1000 of these birds. They are known as "Ayla Kakka" among fishermen in Kannur (meaning Mackerel crow) as they are found in plenty when Mackerels are present.
