While it may come as no surprise to my regular viewers, I'm cheap, I like to build things, and I'm far from afraid of doing weird things to my trusty KLR.

This is the best top box mount that I've made so far, and it seems a lot more sturdy that the previous model which was broken in my first adventure last year when I took a fall to the side and bent the crap out of the old aluminum mounts I had made.

Unfortunately for everyone, this turned into a three part video because I like to try to keep videos near or under 7 minutes if possible.

The first video in the series revolves mostly around setting up what I want to accomplish and how to mount the bike lock to the bike in a way that allows enough clearance to attache the top box.

In the second video I go over how I'm attaching the locking bar of the bike lock to the top box, and how the bottom part made in the first part of this series gets mounted to the bike.

In the third and last video I cover how I cut the cheap cutting board to fit my needs, mounting it to the top box, and testing.

I can say that I've had this on the bike for a couple weeks now and it has held up really well. At most I might want to find some filler to make the little bit of play that it has go away. But I think that's just a little thing that bothers me and doesn't do any real harm so I should probably just leave well enough alone.

The bike lock set me back about $13, the fasteners and metal 2" x 36" sheet were the most expensive coming in at about $30, and the cutting board was around $4 on Amazon. So in total this setup cost me $47-ish and would have been about $20 less if I trusted my own welding skills. I don't have links here because I'd be hesitant to have someone make this exact mount. Finding a lock that works for the size box you have is the most important part.

I hope everyone found this entertaining and informative. I've begun to notice more and more of my videos are me tinkering in the garage and less of me riding. I promise I will do some riding again soon. But I have an important video to put out after this short series is done before I get to any riding videos.
