Pope Francis, still recovering from pneumonia, made a brief visit to Rome's Regina Coeli prison on Holy Thursday, meeting with around 70 inmates of various nationalities who regularly attend pastoral activities.

"I like to do what Jesus did on Holy Thursday — the washing of the feet — in prison," the Pope said. "This year I can't, but I wanted to be close to you."

After a moment of prayer and personal greetings, he led the Our Father and gave his blessing. The visit lasted just over 30 minutes.
