AVATAR therapy is designed for people living with psychosis, a mental health condition characterised by feeling disconnected from reality. That includes seeing or hearing things that aren’t actually happening. 
 
Here, the researchers and lived experience experts behind AVATAR show the therapy in action. 
 
They also discuss the results of the latest trial AVATAR2, led by ‪@kingscollegelondon‬ and supported by Wellcome, which tested two versions of the therapy: an extended version with 12 sessions and a brief version with 6 sessions. 
 
The result?
 
Both versions reduced the distress experienced by people who hear voices, but the extended version delivered stronger and more sustained effects over time.
