In psychoanalysis mental disorders have meaning

Psychoanalysis was a revolutionary practice in the field of mental health care for several reasons. Just one of those is that from the very beginning psychoanalysts believed in the power of dialogue with patients. It is a definition of psychoanalytic treatment that it is focused on careful listening and empowering patients to search for and develop their voices. There is now a lot of evidence that most symptoms and disorders have certain meaning and this meaning can be found in the unconscious.
