What is philosophy?

Philosophy is the intellectual investigation of fundamental questions about the world, God, soul, religion, morality, knowledge, and life in general. It is the contemplation of the purpose of life, Sources, and validity of knowledge, Concepts like justice, equality, freedom, Reality, and the meaning of existence. Philosophy uses reasoning, critical thinking, and systematic analysis to produce logical and coherent explanations for such complicated issues.

Examining the beliefs of major thinkers, analyzing their arguments, and understanding how their ideas have impacted and continue to shape our understanding of the world, religion, society, and culture are all part of philosophy.

Who can take Philosophy?
Any student having a basic interest in topics like God, Soul, fundamental units of universe, religion, etc.
They can be from any stream of graduation like BA, B.com, LLB, B.tech, medicine, etc. It does not require past knowledge of the subject.
Anyone having analytical and critical thinking skills.
Candidates who are willing to devote time and effort and are comfortable with reading and writing about philosophical concepts and theories.
Benefits of taking Philosophy as an Optional
Philosophy can be prepared sufficiently & comprehensively in a very short span of time. syllabus of Philosophy is almost one-third as compared to the other Optional Subject's syllabus UPSC Syllabus of Philosophy is not same as that of graduation and is very short and precisely defined further the concepts of Paper I & Paper II form a continuum such that the meaningful study of Paper I results in the substantial coverage of Paper II. Interlinkage is natural.
