Far too often I find people come into real estate investing deciding they want to get rich or make money but they don't actually define that and the big question is do you have the time and energy to be the active investor?

If the answer is no then there are still many ways to get involved and invest in real estate and one of those options are with Mortgage Investment Corporations so in today's video I have Chris Allinson from Nest Capital back on the channel to break down how MIC's work and if it is right for your real estate business!

In today’s video, we talk about two options:

1) Investing in MICs to help start your real estate investment portfolio

For real estate investors that are not yet ready because they do not have enough down payment to become a landlord or private lender, investing in a Mortgage Investment Corporation (MIC) is a good starting point. That initial ‘nest egg’ investment in a MIC can even grow at a 10% annual historical/targeted rate of return. It is a great way set aside money so you don’t touch it and use it for life expenses. After some time, investors can redeem and use it for a down payment on a property. A lot of people use a Tax Free Savings Account so that when they are earning their returns they are not paying tax on it and it is harder to spend it when it is in a TFSA. What is interesting about investing in a TFSA in our MIC is that not only has it been a 10% return, you can also benefit from compounding with our distribution reinvestment plan to build your real estate nest egg.

2) Investing in MICs to transition to a hands-free approach to real estate investing in a pool of mortgages.

After time, some real estate investors may wish to transition from a more active landlord role to a more passive balanced real estate investing position. We have noticed a definite pattern of experienced real estate landlords looking to continue to invest in real estate via a passive pool of mortgage investment.
