Denny Hamlin: “We CAN’T Just Continue to Ignore the Short Tracks.”

After the NASCAR Cup Series race, Denny Hamlin and his co-host Jared Allen discussed their "forgettable" weekend at Martinsville. Denny talked about his walk with Frank the Tank from Barstool Sports and how he had to explain the movie Forrest Gump to Ty Gibbs.

He also talked about his frustration - and public social media feud - with Marcus Smith of SMI. Denny’s frustration stems from how he perceives the lack of transparency and reinvestment into SMI facilities and tracks.

Moving on to the NASCAR Cup race at Martinsville, Denny expressed his continued disappointment with the short track package. He explained how the NextGen car and data sharing have made everyone race the same way, and he believes that we need one of three things to fix the NextGen’s short-track problems. He suggested that NASCAR focus on one of three areas: softer tires, more horsepower, or eliminating shifting. He emphasized that if we don’t take action to save short tracks NOW, we will lose the grassroots identity of the sport.
