As AI workloads move closer to source data, Postgres developers are exploring new ways to integrate vector search, model pipelines, and AI-native interfaces directly into the database. At EnterpriseDB, we’ve built a Postgres extension in Rust using pgrx to support these emerging use cases.

This talk dives into the technical and organizational journey: why we chose Rust, how it enables rapid iteration, and how the ecosystem helps us balance performance with maintainability. Along the way, I’ll share lessons from team collaboration in a multi-developer Rust codebase, as well as some solo projects. Whether you're curious about building Postgres extensions, integrating AI, or wondering why people are talking about Rust, this talk aims to offer practical insights backed by production experience.
