Описание к видео Development idea for vacant lots around Cincinnati

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - If people have a vacant building or vacant lot next to their house, they're probably not happy about it.

There are many of those vacant lots and buildings in the city of Cincinnati but there could be a solution called "Mow to Own." Neighbors on Edge Hill Place in Avondale would like to say aloha to the "Aloha," a vacant building which was just declared a public nuisance by the city of Cincinnati. For those who live next door to the Aloha and their property is beautifully taken care of, it's pretty upsetting to look outside and see the eyesore.

City officials said the Aloha building was now eligible for demolition. It was one of 19 vacant or rundown Avondale properties discussed Monday, June 6, by city council's law committee. A house that used to be located on another vacant lot burned in late 2012. It was a vacant structure at the time and now, a vacant lot has replaced a vacant structure.

Sterling Willis lives next door to the lot in Mt. Airy and said, "It just looks bad. We get a lot of animals that run through there, especially deer. And when I come out and look, a lot of kids walk through."

City councilmember Kevin Flynn had a potential solution, called "Mow to Own." Under that plan, if neighbors or a community group maintained the lot for a year or two, cut the grass, kept it clean, they could then buy the property for, say, a dollar.

Flynn said, "The people living on either side of the vacant lots are not happy. They weren't happy when it was a vacant building, but they're also not happy when nest to their beautifully maintained law are three foot high weeds."

Back at Aloha, the grass was cut recently. Neighbor Charles Kelly would like the building fixed but if it does get torn down, he was willing to take care of the lot and then buy it. Mow to own.

City council members will likely consider "Mow to Own*" later in the summer of 2016. If the plan were OK'd, it could only impact property which the city or the port authority had taken through foreclosure, not properties currently owned by a person or a business.
