THE TRUE STORY BEHIND AMITYVILLE HORROR HOUSE:
Ronald DeFeo Jr. was responsible for a tragic event that occurred in the Amityville house on November 13, 1974. He murdered his entire family while they were asleep.
DeFeo shot and killed his father, mother, two brothers, and two sisters using a .35 caliber rifle.
The victims of the Amityville house murders were Ronald DeFeo Sr., his wife Louise DeFeo, and their children Dawn, Allison, Marc, and John Matthew.
After committing the murders, Ronald DeFeo Jr. left the house and concocted a false story, claiming that his family had been killed by mob hitmen.
However, inconsistencies in his story and evidence found at the crime scene led to suspicion, and eventually, Ronald DeFeo Jr. confessed to the murders.
He was found guilty of six counts of second-degree murder and is currently serving a prison sentence.
This tragic event became the inspiration for the popular book "The Amityville Horror" written by Jay Anson, as well as subsequent movies and other media adaptations that explored the alleged haunting of the Amityville house following the DeFeo family murders.
