RECIPE:

Oils and Butters (250 g):

🫘 13 g castor oil
🥥 62 g coconut oil
🧈 175 g shea butter

Lye Solution:

⚗️ 33.6 g Sodium Hydroxide (Caustic Soda)
💧 63 g Distilled Water

Important Note: Always handle sodium hydroxide with extreme care. Wear protective gear, including gloves, goggles, and long-sleeved clothing. Work in a well-ventilated area and follow all safety guidelines.

Additives:

🧂 5 g sodium citrate

Sodium citrate is a salt derived from citric acid. Sodium citrate acts as a chelating agent, meaning it binds with metal ions in water, which helps prevent soap scum from forming. By using sodium citrate, I can ensure that the soap performs well in both soft and hard water.

Note: During the curing process, white crystalline spots may appear on the surface of the soap due to the sodium citrate in the recipe. This is normal, non-harmful, and can be easily rinsed off.

STEPS:

00:00 - Intro
00:13 - Weigh coconut oil.
00:25 - Weigh shea butter.
00:40 - Weigh castor oil.
00:50 - Melting the oils and butters.
01:08 - Add 1/2 tsp acitivated charcoal into the oil
01:25 - Check temperature of the oil.
01:34 - Make lye solution.
01:35 - Weigh distilled water.
01:50 - Weigh sodium citrate and add to the water.
01:57 - Stir to dissolve the sodium citare.
02:16 - Wear gloves and goggles.
02:20 - Weigh sodium hydroxide.
02:35 - Add the sodium hydroxide into the water mixed with sodium citrate.
02:44 - Stir gently to dissolve the sodium hydroxide.
03:02 - Check temperature of the sodium hydroxide solution.
03:06 - Add the sodium hydroxide solution into the oil.
03:20 - Blend until reach trace.
03:43 - Pour into a mold.
04:06 - Unmold.
04:06 - Unmold.
04:20 - Cut.
05:10 - Cure.
05:14 - Using.
