A former Rhode Island councilman was arrested June 8, 2023 on multiple counts of child molestation, weeks after he was found passed out in his car with drug paraphernalia around him.

According to The Providence Journal, court documents indicate that 41-year-old Matthew Reilly was arrested after a complaint was reportedly filed on behalf of a 12-year-old girl he met online.

The arrest comes after Reilly, a Republican from Cranston, was charged with possession of a controlled substance stemming from the incident last month when police found him unconscious behind the wheel with a “white, rock-like substance" and glass pipe in his hand. Following that incident, he was booked and released pending a June 15 court hearing.

Body-cam footage of that arrest, obtained by local ABC News affiliates, depicts the officer shaking Reilly awake before searching him and his vehicle.
