Описание к видео She Risked Everything for Them: Irena Sendler’s Untold WWII Heroism

🕊️ The woman who cheated death to save others
The story of Irena Sendler - a heroine without a weapon

👶 Rescuing 2,500 children from the Warsaw Ghetto.
Irena Sendler, a Polish social worker, led the operation to rescue Jewish children from the Warsaw Ghetto. Disguised as a health inspector, she infiltrated the ghetto, convincing parents to hand over their children to save them from certain death. The children were carried out in sacks, suitcases, toolboxes, and even trash containers. Some were taken out in ambulances or through underground communications. After being rescued, the children were given false documents and placed with Polish families, monasteries, and orphanages.

📝 List in glass jars.
To preserve information about the real names and locations of the rescued children, Irena wrote down their details on pieces of paper and hid them in glass jars, which she buried in her friend's garden. She hoped that after the war, the children would be reunited with their families.

⚔️ Arrest, torture and escape.
In October 1943, Irena was arrested by the Gestapo. She was subjected to brutal torture, her legs were broken, but she did not give up a single child. Sentenced to death, she escaped execution by bribing the guards, organized by the Polish underground. After that, she continued her activities under a different name.

🕊️ Post-war life and recognition.
After the war, Irena gave a list of rescued children to the Central Committee of Polish Jews to help reunite families. In 1965, she was awarded the title of Righteous Among the Nations. However, her feat remained little known until 2000, when American schoolgirls from Kansas created a theatrical production "Life in a Jar" telling the story of her heroism.

🏅 Legacy.
Irena Sendler passed away in 2008 at the age of 98. Her story inspires people around the world, reminding them that even in the darkest times, good deeds can be done.
