In 1944, during the Jim Crow era, the state of South Carolina executed George Stinney Jr.
He was only fourteen years old.

Accused of killing two white girls, George was arrested without evidence, interrogated without parents or a lawyer, and tried by an all-white jury. There were no fingerprints, no weapon, no eyewitnesses — only fear, racism, and a system designed to move fast against Black children.

The trial lasted just a few hours.
The jury took ten minutes to decide his fate.
Eighty days later, the state killed a child.

For seventy years, this injustice remained buried. In 2014, a judge finally overturned George Stinney Jr.’s conviction, acknowledging that he was denied his basic constitutional rights and that the trial was fundamentally unfair.

This story matters because it exposes how law can be used as a tool of power, not justice — and how Black children have often paid the price.

Remembering George means remembering his age.
The truth does not change with time.
