Network Rail has drawn up plans for the remainder of the £80m new sea wall at Dawlish, funded by the Government to improve the long-term resilience of the railway linking Devon and Cornwall to the rest of the UK.

The plans include a new, taller sea wall incorporating a high-level public promenade; a new, accessible station footbridge with lifts; new pedestrian access to the beach and a new footbridge to link sections one and two of the sea wall. The reconstruction of the timber, seaward platform at Dawlish station will also allow improved accessibility to make it easier for passengers to get on and off trains.

The scheme will deliver a wider, safer, promenade, more reliable journeys for rail passengers and greater protection for the Grade II listed Dawlish station building.
