For more than seven months KATU’s Angelica Thornton has been trying to get help for a homeless woman who lives just off the edge of I-5 in north Portland.

Her name is Vicky Smith. She’s 60 years old and disabled. Vicky had to have her leg amputated last year.

On Wednesday morning someone with the Mental Health and Addiction Association of Oregon texted Angelica while she was anchoring the news.

They saw the story and wanted to help.
