More powerful V6 diesel to join the British car-maker's fleet later this year

Land Rover has announced changes to the Range Rover Sport line-up for 2019, headed by a new diesel-powered entry model.

The British car-maker’s large SUV range will be underlined by a new SDV6 engine for 2019, which will replace the current four-cylinder SD4 offering.

Bringing 183kW and 600Nm outputs (a 6kW/100Nm increase), the six-cylinder oiler sends drive via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The added firepower will translate to a 7.9-second sprint time across the 0-100km/h dash, along with a claimed fuel consumption figure of about 7.0L/100km.

The changes do correlate with a $1628 price increase, the SDV6 offering set at $96,728 (plus on-road costs).

The diesel edition will be made available along current SDV8 and TDV6 diesel engines, while at the top of the pile resides the flagship 5.0-litre supercharged V8 model with 386kW and 625Nm outputs.

Range Rover will purportedly expand its green footprint in 2019 thanks to a new P400e plug-in hybrid variant. It combines a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and plug-in electric drivetrain to produce a combined 297kW of power.

The car’s batteries offer an electric range of 51km and help to reduce overall fuel consumption to 2.8L/100km.

The Range Rover Sport line-up will be available with adaptive cruise control with a stop and go function along with steering assist that will allow some form of semi-autonomy in traffic.

“This system helps keep the vehicle centred in its lane by applying moderate steering interventions with the driver’s hands on the wheel,” Land Rover explains.

“The technology uses lane markings and, or where no lane markings can be detected, the path of the vehicle in front. Switching lanes or braking deactivates the system.”

Automated emergency braking is also fitted across the range.

Order books for the MY2019 Range Rover Sport have now opened, with the first deliveries expected in the fourth quarter of 2018.
