Craftsman lawn tractor gear drive transmission resurrection

Was planning to do a motor swap video but ended up doing a transmission repair video. The transaxle in the Craftsman was stuck in neutral and I thought it was done.

I do NOT recommend doing this and it may not be clear in the video but this is what I did to get the gear drive transmission working on my Craftsman lawn tractor 917.270670 that uses 6 speed peerless Tecumseh transaxle # 206-545c

1) Remove transmission from lawn tractor.
2) Drain out old nasty gear oil.
3) Pour in 1 quart old gas and manually move transmission through gears while it is off the tractor.
4) Drain old gas from transmission
5) Pour 1.5 quarts of marvel mystery oil and manually move transmission through gears while it is off the tractor.
6) Drain marvel mystery oil from transmission
7) Fill transmission with Red Lin 75W90NS
8) Re-install transmission on tractor
9) Start motor and run through all gears with rear wheels lifted in the air
10) Drive lawn tractor around yard working it through all the gears


Again, I'm crazy for trying this and was lucky to get my transmission working. Doing what I did could cause serious damage to your equipment or cause bodily harm. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!
