In Hebrew 12:5-6 you can see that the writer pertains to chastening as a good thing from God.

"And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says, “My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when He rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines the one He loves, and He chastens everyone He accepts as His son."

Why is this "good"? Well as it states in the verse God loves the ones He chastens - so we see that if you are being chastened it's beacuse God, the Creator of the universe, the One who can speak a word and any portion of the cosmos could collapse and be erased from existance, the Alpha and Omega who knows every fiber of your being, He, Him, is showing love to you through this action.

So we can see the discipline, correction, rebuke and chastening comes from a place of love. As a good and caring father desires to better his son does God do the same to those who He accepts as His sons and daughters.
