01/07/2024 Silvis IL. This old Rock Island steam locomotive repair shop is massive at 400000 square feet. Built in 1903 it was one of the largest shops in the country. The property also had a 45 stall round house. The Rock went bankrupt in 1980 and shortly after National Railway Equipment took over the building. In 2022 The Railroading Heritage of Midwest America took over the building and will be restoring locomotives and cars. There was also some yard action with the Iowa Interstate going on during my visit!
