Boogie Woogie Left Hand - from ZERO to INDEPENDENT in 15 exercises (time-lapse)

With over 30 years of experience playing boogie woogie, it still takes effort and patience to put a new left hand bass pattern into my muscle memory. In this video I cover 15 exercises to take a new bass pattern from zero (just knowing the notes) to independent (can do anything with the right hand).

BEGINNERS: to get a new bass pattern under your fingers and into your muscle memory, the process may take a month or two of daily practice for at least 20 min a day. The first left hand pattern you try to learn always takes the longest. As you get the hang of one, and then another, and then another, the process takes less time. Be patient and stick with it!

I chose this bass pattern because it was something I had never played before, so for me it was "starting from zero", even though you must keep in mind that my left hand is used to repeating a series of 8 notes, so that mindset is already in place for me.

3) Big movements with right arm
4) Watch TV
5) Read a book
6) Color or draw
7) Call someone and have a conversation
8) Right hand chords
9) Right hand licks
10) Practice the IV chord
11) Different song in the right hand
12) Practice the V chord
13) 12 bar blues
14) Focus on problem areas
15) Metronome
Final Stage: Licks + 12Bar Blues + Metronome
